Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has signed a Dh3.27bn ($890m) water purchase agreement with Saudi-based Acwa Power, to develop a 900,000 m3/d-plus reverse osmosis desalination plant in Taweelah, 45km north of Abu Dhabi. It would be the largest plant of its kind in the world. It will tap into 50MW of solar generation on-site.
