Past work: Infrastructure Financing Trends in Africa

Who is Financing Africa's Infrastructure

From 2013 to 2019 we acted as consultant for the African Development Bank-based Secretariat of the Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA) to identify key trends in financing for the ICA’s flagship publication, Infrastructure Financing Trends in Africa.

The project involved the collection and analysis of financial commitments and disbursements from IFIs, African national governments and the private sector, including the:

  • obtaining granular project- and country-level data on loan, grant, equity, blended and leveraged financial flows from European and non-European IFIs (such as Arab Co-ordination Group members, Japan Bank for International Cooperation) and multilateral development banks (including AfDB, WBG);
  • identification and presentation of key trends in investments made in Africa’s energy, transport, water and ICT sectors;
  • production of annual reports to the highest publication standards, in English and French, with high quality texts, pictures and graphics as well as specially prepared maps, and
  • presentation and discussion of the report and our work including sessions at the Africa Investment Forums in Johannesburg in November 2018 and 2019 and at high-level meetings in Abidjan, Arusha, Cape Town and Rome.
