Monitoring the AEEP 2020 Targets, Developing 2020 Scenarios and Providing a Monitoring Report

For Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) we acted as a services provider to the EUEI Partnership Dialogue Facility (EUEI PDF) to help it in its mission to provide operational and logistical support to the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP). The project objective was to evolve and operationalise the AEEP Monitoring Tool to measure progress towards meeting the AEEP’s political targets over time until 2020. The project involved:

• data collection and development of metrics including increases (or decreases) in energy infrastructure; fuel supply (including renewables); generating and distribution capacity; energy access (including affordability); energy efficiency and energy legislation;
• development of methodologies for collecting and assessing baseline data as well as different. methodologies for collecting data that indicates improvements in (or the deterioration of) energy infrastructure, supply and access across the continent, and
• designing, writing, delivering and presenting a First Monitoring Report in 2013 at the Second High-level Meeting of the AEEP.
