Thalia Griffiths

Thalia Griffiths is the editor of African Energy. She is an experienced journalist and analyst of the politics and economics of Sub-Saharan Africa. She has been instrumental in the development of African Energy since its launch in 1998, and also works on other Africa-related CbI research projects. 

Thalia gained an MA in German and French from New College, Oxford, then joined Reuters as a graduate trainee.  She is also a former deputy editor of London-based political newsletter Africa Confidential.  Her career with Reuters included three years based in the West Africa regional bureau in Cote d’Ivoire, as well as postings on the Middle East and Africa editing desk in Cyprus, Bulgaria, and London.  Thalia has reported on the opening up of Eastern Europe after 1989, the changing relationship between France and its former colonies, conflict and political unrest in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cote d’Ivoire, Chad and Niger, and African business and economics.  She has a special interest in Africa’s smaller states and frontier hydrocarbons exploration plays.
