Khalid Bin Bandar out of defence – and into GID

In a strange twist of events, former Riyadh governor Prince Khalid Bin Bandar Bin Abdelaziz was removed from his new post as deputy defence minister on 28 June, only to be appointed to the head of the General Intelligence Directorate (GID) three days later. Prince Khalid had only been appointed to the defence post on 14 May; sources told GSN that his removal from the job just 45 days later seemed to be the result of tension between him and Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, son of defence minister Crown Prince Salman Bin Abdelaziz.
