Prime minister Narendra Modi’s government has made good on its commitment to step up military engagement with Gulf Co-operation Council states – reiterated during the PM’s visits to Saudi Arabia in early April and the UAE last year – with official visits, a flotilla of vessels from the Indian Navy (IN)’s Mumbai-based Western Naval Command visiting four GCC ports and the Indian Air Force (IAF) conducting a combat exercise in the UAE in recent weeks.
